The Spanish government is facing criticism from energy companies, banks, and business associations over new tax proposals for their sectors. Critics argue that the taxes will impact Spanish competitiveness. The conflict arises as the government’s commitment towards presenting a Royal Decree-law to tax large energy companies surfaces. This approach is deemed necessary to gain parliamentary support for fiscal reforms. Furthermore, Spain’s significant economic drivers continue to raise concerns over the potential impact of these tax changes on the national economy. Meanwhile, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) reported a steady expansion rate of 0.5% for its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) between July and September, exceeding the growth observed in the previous quarter. The consistent economic growth may suffer due to the emerging tax disputes.
