The Spanish economy continues its strong growth, beating all forecasts. Following a robust first quarter, the country’s GDP expanded by 0.8% in the second quarter, according to the National Institute of Statistics. This represents a slight deceleration from the revised 0.9% growth seen at the start of the year, but it remains ahead of many European peers. The primary driver of this growth is strong consumer spending, with household consumption increasing 1% on a quarterly basis, half a point above the previous quarter. On an annual basis, the growth rate has accelerated to 3.1%, marking the highest rate since the start of the year and indicating a substantial rise of six tenths compared to the previous quarter.
