The Spanish economy, afflicted by an unemployment rate at a staggering 11.3% – the highest in the EU and over double the average of the 27 member states, could have nonetheless grown by up to 5% between 2014 and 2020 if pollution levels had remained under the threshold recommended by the World Health Organization. There has been a rising public interest in the economy and finance in the last year, with 80% of financial advisors noting an augmented engagement from the citizenry. On a separate note, Spain has proposed to the European Union an innovative mechanism to progress with the long-stalled capital markets union, aiming to boost the economic activity further.
