Spain’s economy faces a potential impact due to the DANA (Isolated Depression at High Levels) with the Bank of Spain predicting it could detract two-tenths from the GDP growth in the fourth quarter. An estimated 561,210 clients are affected with a total exposure to credit in the impacted area being 20.584 billion euros. Governor Jose Luis Escrivá notes the affected municipalities account for 2% of Spain’s GDP and 3% of industrial activity. The DANA is also expected to cause a 0.15 point impact on inflation. Meanwhile, in the first six months of 2024, Spanish capital markets remain robust, retaining their position as the fourth biggest in the Eurozone, amid a general backdrop of economic vitality, displaying unusual strength in the weak European landscape.
