The Bank of Spain predicts that the ‘DANA’ (Acute Declaration of Environmental Risk) will have a minor impact on Spain’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), reducing its growth by roughly 0.2 percentage points in the fourth quarter. The central bank also estimates a 0.15 percentage point impact on the inflation rate over the long term. This is due to the DANA’s effects on areas that account for 2% of Spain’s GDP and 3% of its industrial activity. Despite the recent challenges, initial reports for the first six months of 2024 suggest that Spain continues to hold its position as the fourth largest market in the Eurozone. Indeed, macroeconomic indicators show unusual strength in Spain’s economy amid a generally weaker European outlook. In total, the credit exposure in the affected zone is €20.584 billion, affecting 561,210 customers.
